The penultimate round of the TrialGP World Championship, the TrialGP of France, took place as a single-day event in the picturesque city of Cahors.
Cahors, nestled along the Lot River, welcomed the participants of the Trial World Championship with both rain and sunshine over the weekend. The rain on Saturday afternoon, after the training sessions and just in time for the section inspection, did not impact Sunday’s event, which was held under favourable weather conditions and without mud.
The Vertigo team, once again, gave their all in the sections, but the close competition among the riders – a constant throughout the season – made achieving a good final classification difficult. In the top category, Miquel Gelabert fought hard to break into the top five, but a few too many errors on the first lap hampered his efforts to improve in the second, ultimately finishing in eighth position. Gelabert remains sixth in the general standings of the TrialGP World Championship.
In Trial2, Catalan rider Pau Martínez earned one more point for the championship, finishing 15th and holding the same position in the standings. However, Italian rider Mattia Spreafico was on track to finish in the top ten, but an error in the arrival procedure left him out of the trial. Despite this, he is still ranked tenth in the championship. Alfie Lampkin, who finished 26th, continues to focus on gaining as much experience as possible in his first season in the intermediate category.
Lastly, and no less importantly, Vertigo’s participation in Trial3, which contested the final trial of the season, was covered by young rider Ángel Llopis. Llopis finished 15th in a challenging trial for those opening the sections, as was his case. The Valencian rider concludes his first year in the promotion category in 15th position.
The next and final trial of the TrialGP World Championship will be held in Spain. The city of Ripoll will host the conclusion of this World Championship on 14 and 15 September.
