Matteo Grattarola got the X-Trial World Championship underway in Barcelona on Sunday. The Italian rider competed whilst recovering from an injury sustained in training at the same trial on Friday.
Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi hosted the opening trial of the FIM X-Trial World Championship, with Vertigo featuring a significant on-track presence.
Matteo Grattarola was unable to perform in top physical condition due to a serious injury suffered earlier on Friday while training. Grattarola, showing clear signs of several injuries on his face and, in particular, a knee injury, struggled to get through the tough Barcelona X-Trial course. In the opening five sections of the first lap he managed to finish two without penalty marks, while in the rest he was unable to overcome the obstacles. The rider made considerable improvements on the second lap, accruing just six marks. In spite of this, it failed to allow him to finish higher than ninth final position.
A spectacular Vertigo section
Vertigo was one of the partners involved in the race, the dean event of indoor trial with 46 editions of the International Barcelona Trial Indoor, with a spectacular section on the trial course with the Vertigo JB Replica in front of the area.
The next round of the X-Trial World Championship is set to take place on 11 March in Wiener Neustadt, Austria.
