The sixth round of the FIM TrialGP World Championship is set to take place this coming weekend in the alpine town of Sestrière, Italy. This presents both a new challenge and a new location for the Vertigo riders, where altitude could be a decisive factor.
Sestrière, in Italy, will this weekend host the penultimate round of the FIM TrialGP World Championship 2023, with all the categories of the top flight of trial taking part. The town, located in the heart of the Italian Alps, has previously hosted TrialGP World Championship events (in 1986 and 2003) as well as being one of the venues for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin. Most of the twelve sections of the course are located at around 2000 metres above sea level, which is likely to prove a major challenge for riders and mechanics alike.
Pau Martínez, Mattia Spreafico, Adrià Mercadé and Emile Mattheeuws will be in the battle for the most hotly contested class, Trial2, whose aim will be to continue honing their riding skills and improving on the results achieved so far this season. In Trial3, the only Vertigo representative will be British rider Alfie Lampkin. The son of the twelve times world champion – behind the bars of his 125cc Vertigo RS – will try to come away with the highest points haul possible to stay in the running as a medal contender.
Other Vertigo riders who are also set to compete in Sestrière are Miquel Gelabert in TrialGP and – after making her debut in Andorra – Australian Lillie Yiatrou in Trial2Women.
