Following a promising TrialGP in Andorra, where Vertigo factory riders achieved very positive results, the Italian TrialGP has presented its more challenging side.
The third round of the TrialGP World Championship took place this past weekend in the town of Cortenova, in the Lecco region. The Italian leg of the championship was drenched on Saturday, complicating the trial for most riders who struggled with the slippery conditions. The course featured semi-artificial zones with large rocks for the initial sections, then transitioned to two forest sections where navigating the muddy turns was very difficult. This was followed by four sections in a river and concluded with two indoor sections that became even more challenging in the rain.
In TrialGP, the official Vertigo Motors rider, Miquel Gelabert, failed to enter the fray for the podium on either of the two days of competition, although he came very close to achieving it. Several minor errors prevented him from repeating the success he obtained in Andorra just a week ago. Sixth position for Miquel on Saturday and ninth on Sunday, which does not change his position in the general standings, where he remains seventh.
It was a tough weekend for Vertigo riders in Trial2. Local rider Mattia Spreafico was the best over the weekend and remains in the top ten of the general standings in this category. Mattia also finished within the top ten on Saturday and placed twelfth on Sunday, while Pau Martínez, who was ninth on Saturday, dropped to fifteenth on the final day. Alfie Lampkin continues to gain experience with each trial against more seasoned riders; this time, he finished 24th on Saturday and 27th on Sunday. Wildcard rider Cristian Bassi, despite not regularly competing in the World Championship, finished 34th and 35th.
Angel Llopis in Trial3 did not have luck on his side this time. The Valencian rider suffered a foot injury which affected his performance. He placed 12th on Saturday and 18th on Sunday. This was a drop for the revelation rider from last week in Andorra, bringing him down to tenth in the general standings of the championship.
The next trial of the TrialGP World Championship will take place on the first weekend of July in the German town of Neunkirchen.
